SALMON ARM –– With the start of the Roots and Blues Festival only a week away, music fans can get in on the action early.
The Routes and Blues concert series, an outreach program developed by the Salmon Arm Folk Music Society, drops by the Enderby area today with a hike up the Enderby Cliffs and a pulled pork dinner and a concert with Rumba Calzada at the Kingfisher Community Hall tonight. Other pre-festival performances are taking place in and around Salmon Arm.
Festival organizers will be revealing the new Roots and Blues T-shirt design Saturday at Askew’s Foods in Salmon Arm. Cake will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a performance by local musician Aimie Laws.
Those who wear their own Roots and Blues T-shirts from festivals past can win prizes including festival passes and Askew’s gift cards.
Kelowna bluesman Sherman Doucette and Nelson’s Wassabi Collective will also perform atop a houseboat near shore on Shuswap Lake, Wednesday. Visitors can catch them at the Herald Park day-use area at 11 a.m., Canoe Beach at 1:30 p.m. and the Salmon Arm wharf at 4 p.m.
