The Campbell River Art Gallery and The Campbell River Arts Council hosted the 33rd Members’ Exhibition Opening Reception last week. This year’s jurors consisted of Sonia Stastny, Paulina Maj and Brett Ferdinandi of Cumberland’s Sew Sisters Artist Collective.
They spent the day with the over 80 artworks thoughtfully discussing and choosing the winners of four awards and four honourable mentions.
The Technicality Award was awarded to Catherine Martha Holmes for “My Dear Old Friend” (Poured Watercolour on Paper). The Innovation Award was award to Kathryn Botsford for “Echoes on the Shore I” (Fibre Art). The Originality Award was awarded to Heather Koning for “Liminality” (Pine, medical gloves, cable ties).
The Juror’s Choice Award was awarded to Bob Sivertson for “US II” (Acrylic). “Paddling Through History” by D. Ross Fischer, “Cubic Zoom” by Ruth MacLaurin, “Pushing the Envelope” by Karen Martin Sampson, and “The Jellies” by Melissa St. Louis were awarded Honourable Mention. Awards were donated by Impressions Art Gallery, Pier Street Art Gallery, Photo Tech, PJ’s Arts + Custom Framing and Needle and Arts Centre. Gallery Visitors can vote for the “People’s Choice Award” until the exhibition closes on May 8.
The Art Gallery is open to the public Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
