Faber Drive kicks off hot summer in the city

Faber Drive headline a blockbuster opening night for Chilliwack's Party in the Park in Central Community Park.

Next Friday night downtown is going to be one the hottest summer nights on Chilliwack’s entertainment calendar.

Four-piece Faber Drive from Mission, are headlining a blockbuster opening night for PITP in Central Community Park.

Faber Drive is a hard-hitting Canadian pop rock outfit, that is “sure to light up the stage,” said Darcy D, the new entertainment coordinator of PITP.

The band’s catchy 2009 tune G-Get up and Dance hit number six on the Canadian charts, and other tunage from their first album garnered gold and platinum records for mega sales.

Discovered by Chad Krueger, Faber Drive earned a 2008 Juno nom for Best New Group of the Year.

“We have an amazing line-up this summer Including many rock, pop, and country performing artists from all over British Columbia,” said Darcy D,  owner of DMG Artist Development Group. He’s a vocal instructor who’s worked with Victoria Duffield, Kristal Barrett, and Chilliwack’s own Kat. He’s also a former singer for Prism, and tour manager for bands like Swollen Members, Simple Plan and Theory of a Deadman.

This summer also comes with a chance for locals to perform on the PITP stage with the ‘Big Shot’ Music Competition.

“Local solo artists and bands are encouraged to audition for a chance to play on the Party in the Park stage by uploading a video to The Chilliwack Progress contest’s page,” BIA Special Events chair Leanne Adderley.

It’s at facebook.com/chilliwackprogress. Follow the contest links.

“Social media has become a great way to connect with our Party in the Park fans, share photos, and now bands can upload their videos for the ‘Chilliwack’s Big Shot’ Music Competition,” Adderley explained.

On opening night, Star 98.3 will seek to break the Guinness World Record for the most people shucking corn simultaneously.

“This is our sixth year of Party in the Park and I can promise it will be bigger and better than ever,” said Kathy Funk, BIA executive director.

Theme nights, a Disneyland trip give-away, a busy Family Fun Zone, some surprises and guest appearances will make this the highlight of the summer for thousands of families in the Fraser Valley, she said.

PITP is eight exciting Friday nights in July and August of free, entertainment and activities for the whole family. The Downtown Chilliwack BIA, along with the Chilliwack Progress, Star 98.3 and 350 other downtown businesses, are proud to present Party in the Park every Friday night July 6 – August 24.

Award-winning concert event series organizers are pleased to welcome back title sponsor, Coast Capital Savings this year.

New this year is a shift in location of the market.

It will now fill parts of Wellington and along Mill Street.
