Fall perfect time to let your art skills blossom

Fall is the perfect time to try a workshop at the Campbell River Art Gallery.

Register today for an upcoming class and learn something new this autumn.

On Tuesdays, Oct. 18 to Nov. 8, artist Caren Heine will present a Beginner Watercolour class.

Explore the wonderful medium of watercolours with this experienced instructor and talented artist. With 40 years of watercolour painting and teaching experience, Heine will guide the class through the intricacies of paint mixing and colour, using various painting surfaces and a variety of brushes.

This class is suited for people who have not tried watercolours before, or those who would like to renew their skills.

This class takes place on four Tuesday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $140, or $120 for Gallery members, plus GST.

Heine will also offer ‘Moving Forward in Watercolour’, on Tuesdays from Nov. 15 to Dec. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. For those who have some watercolour experience, Heine will help move you forward with her engaging and inspiring teaching style and expertise.

She will expand on the intricacies of paint and colour mixing, techniques for handling various painting surfaces, drawing and laying washes as well as brushwork techniques.

The cost is $140, or $120 for Gallery members, plus GST.

Artist Darren Larose will offer a Silk Screen Printing workshop at the Gallery over two weekends – October 15 and 16 and October 29 and 30. The workshop runs from 12 to 4 p.m. each day.  This workshop will teach participants the process of successful silk screen printing; from building your own frame to printing your image. Participants can print on t-shirts, fabric, paper, wood, etc…. This is an introductory course and the focus will not be on artistic skill, but rather on process. The cost is $140, or $120 for Gallery members, plus GST.

And, the gallery will again offer Life Drawing this fall, hosted by Glen Chambers.

The sessions run on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. from Oct. 18 to Nov. 22. Life Drawing sessions are open to those who wish to practice drawing the human figure in a group setting. Everyone is welcome and there will be no instruction, only the opportunity to draw a live model in a variety of poses in the company of other artists.

Easels and tables are provided, but bring your choice of drawing or painting materials and the gallery will provide the model. Poses will be timed, beginning with a few short warm-ups, then transitioning to longer poses.

You can register and pay for all six sessions prior to the start date, for $62.50 plus GST, or pay a drop-in rate of $12.50 per session.
