Famed fiddler Natalie MacMaster headed to Duncan

An Acoustic Evening With Natalie MacMaster on Thursday, March 12 at the Performing Arts Centre.

Want to hear some of the world’s best fiddle music?

The Cowichan Performing Arts Centre and Gee Dan Productions are presenting An Acoustic Evening With Natalie MacMaster on Thursday, March 12 at the Performing Arts Centre.

“This lively, intimate concert of Cape Breton traditionals and original music with beloved fiddler Natalie MacMaster is presented to celebrate the release of her new album, Sketches,” say producers. “This gorgeous evening of music will feature treasured favourites and new music created with gifted guitarist Tim Edey.

“You’ll be swept up the nostalgia of Natalie’s incredible playing and it’ll be an evening you won’t want to miss.”

MacMaster has come to Duncan before, most recently with her husband, Donnell Leahy, and children in a blockbuster Christmas show in 2018, and her concerts have always packed the house.

She is a Juno and Grammy Award winning violinist, and also a recipient of the Order of Canada. She’s been performing since she was 10 years old, and she “could step-dance before she could walk” boasts her website.

She is originally from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, a hotbed of fiddle talent. She is actually distantly related to fellow Cape Breton native Ashley MacIsaac, her bio notes. She has performed with a hugely diverse array of talent in all kinds of musical genres, including Béla Fleck, Faith Hill, Carlos Santana, The Chieftans, Sharon, Lois & Bram, Buddy MacMaster and Jesse Cook. She’s got 11 solo albums to her name, and four collaborations with the likes of famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Johnny Reid, and of course Donnell Leahy.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $49.50 each. Check out cowichanpac.ca to purchase or for more information. You can also call the box office at 250-746-2722.
