TALENTED CHILDREN'S ENTERTAINER Rick Scott will perform selections from a musical audio novel Oct. 12 at the Courtenay Public Library.

On Oct. 12, award-winning family entertainer Rick Scott steps into the Courtenay library with the release of a musical audio novel.

The Great Gazzoon — A Tall Tale With Tunes & Turbulence is four CDs with a 40-page illustrated chapbook of songs and poems from the story.

It’s a folk tale told by a veteran folkie — over 35 years Rick has performed over 1,000 shows in many countries.

The Great Gazzoon is the story of how one boy’s love of music overcomes his fear and his community. It embraces themes of literacy, creative process, friendship and trusting what you love, told through narration, poetry, spoken word, dialogue and song.

The central image is a boy who must walk a tightrope between two mountain peaks to ensure balance and safety in his kingdom. The story unfolds over 60 chapters and three and a half hours on three CDs, audio unfolded by Rick and 25 actors, singers and musicians, most of whom hail from Vancouver Island.

The fourth CD — Gazzoon tunes — contains full and embellished versions of songs from the story.

The recording was written, scored and produced on Protection Island in Nanaimo by the award-winning team of Rick Scott and Valley Hennell, whose seven children’s CDs have been honoured with three Juno nominations and multiple Parents’ Choice, NAPPA Gold, iParenting Media, Children’s Music web and Canadian Folk Music Awards.

Rick Scott will perform from the Great Gazzoon at the Courtenay Public Library, Friday, October 12,  at 11 am.

This is a free event open to the public, children ages eight and up.

It will be at the Courtenay Library at 300 Sixth St. For more information, call the library at 250-334-3369.
