Gatzke Orchards has been enjoying a great summer concert series on its Big Blue Stage.
The season wraps up Sunday with the return of one-man dynamo Shane Philip.
“I love coming out to Gatzke’s to play. It’s an amazing venue in a beautiful part of our province. I can’t wait,” said Philip about the Oyama-based orchard that overlooks both Kalamalka and Wood Lakes.
A full-time touring musician with four albums under his belt, Philip has been heard on national independent and campus radio stations and is a regular on CBC Radio programs across Canada.
However, it’s his aptitude on a multitude of instruments that has gained him notice for his live performances.
His one-man show has him on stage surrounded by didgeridoos, guitars, harmonicas, drums and more, some of which he plays at the same time using with hands, feet and mouth.
“It’s amazing the amount of music that he can produce on his own. All that energy is quite infectious as his live shows build and build with his audience,” said Joseph Pinheiro, Gatzke’s event manager, who had the chance to see Philip open up for The Wailers when they played at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre in March.
“By the end of his opening set, the crowd was chanting for more. He has a great following throughout the Okanagan, so it is going to be a very special night.”
Tickets for Philip’s concert at Gatzke Orchards are available online at www.gatzkeorchard.com as well as at Gatzke’s fruit stand on Pelmewash Parkway in Oyama. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
