Echo Players prepares judged - and not found wanting

CHO Players’ production of Lettice and Lovage received a warm reception at the North Island Zone Festival in Port Alberni May 26, and one of their actors received accolades.

Kathy Harper was awarded for Outstanding Achievement as a Female Actor in a Supporting Role by adjudicator Leon Potter, a theatre professor at Vancouver Island University.

ECHO Players also received an Outstanding Backstage Coordination award. Under George Murguly’s guidance, the crew put up the set in three hours and dismantled it and, following the performance, secured it in the truck in just over one hour.

Other awards for outstanding achievement were:

Ensemble Acting:  Over the River and Through the Woods (Nanaimo Theatre Group); 

Sound Design:  Veronica’s Room (Rivercity Players, Campbell River); 

Lighting Design:  Half Life (Courtenay Little Theatre); 

Set Design:  Half Life (Courtenay Little Theatre); 

Costume Design:  The Importance of Being Earnest (Portal Players, Port Alberni); 

Graphic Design:  Veronica’s Room (Rivercity Players); 

Male Actor in a Supporting Role:  Jack Alouf (Nanaimo Theatre Group); 

Female Actor in a Lead Role:  Maureen Cusack (Thin Ice Theatre, Parksville); 

Male Actor in a Lead Role: Elliot Drew (Portal Players); 

Best Director:  Ann Gates (Thin Ice Theatre); 

Best Production:  Over the River and Through the Woods (Nanaimo Theatre Group).  This production will represent our Zone at the 2011 Theatre BC Mainstage Festival in Kamloops in July.
