The Old School House Arts Centre should have a sound for every taste when it kicks off the 2015 Qualicum Beach Harvest of Music Festival beginning Friday.
The series will feature classical, jazz and latin performances, along with a series of workshops, while running through Monday, Oct. 19.
The Harvest begins tomorrow at 7 p.m. with a classical concert by clarinetist Liam Hockley, cellist Lee Duckles and pianist Eugene Skovorodnikov. Admission is $16.
On Saturday, the DieMahler Strong Quartet, led by acclaimed Mexican violinist Pablo Diemecke, will present a set of works by Latin American and Spanish Composers beginning at noon. Cost is $10.
That is followed by a Flamenco dance workshop for fun and recreation, led by veteran dancer and studio head Sandra Cisneros. The workshop begins at 2 p.m., with an admission fee of $16.
Saturday wraps up with a Spanish jazz concert at 7 p.m., by Nancy Ruth and Sangria Jam. Ruth is a Canadian-born singer and guitarist now living in Spain who has toured extensively and who has recorded two albums in Spanish. She will be backed by Sangria Jam’s complement of guitar, piano, bass and percussion. Cost is $16.
The Harvest resumes Sunday with a percussion workshop beginning at 11 a.m. The Cajón style of Latin, Flamenco, Rumba and salsa percussion will be shared by Maestro Davide Sampaolo. Cost is $16.
Sampaolo will then take the stage with Cisneros and guitarist Rubén Portillo for a pair of Flamenco concerts. Thanks to “robust” advance ticket sales, there will be a matinee performance at 2:30 p.m. and an evening concert at 7 p.m., with tickets for each show $16 each.
