The Filberg Festival has always been known for featuring exceptional talent when it comes to entertainment. Continuing from last year the festival will once again offer a special Friday evening concert featuring Cuban-Canadian singer-songwriter Alex Cuba.
He has won two Juno Awards for World Music Album of the Year: in 2006 for Humo De Tabaco, and in 2008 for his second album, Agua Del Pozo. In 2010 he won the Latin Grammy for Best New Artist.
His 2015 album, Healer, earned him a Latin Grammy Award for Best Singer-Songwriter Album and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Pop Album.
Tickets will be priced at $39 for festival seating and available online only as of May 1.
Headliners over the long weekend include: Great Lake Swimmers, BC World Music Collective, and Bellflower. Visit filbergfestival.com for the full lineup.
On the artisan side of things, this year the Filberg Festival is honoured to feature world renowned glass artist, Robert Held.
For over 25 years Held has led the Canadian art glass industry, establishing the first college-level art glass program and influencing the art across North America.
His pieces are in the collections of royalty and governments, and can be part of your home collection.
The 2016 festival is also proud to showcase a select group of 130 artisans and makers of fine art in a variety of media ranging from metalwork, pottery, toys, woodcrafts, jewelry, paintings, glass, textiles and specialty foods.
Advance festival tickets are available as of May 1 online at www.filbergfestival.com, at the Filberg Lodge Gift Shop and the I-HOS Gallery, and at all Vancouver Island Thrifty Foods locations as of June 24.
