Film festival aims to inspire

The 8th Annual Reel Paddling Film Festival will be in Nanaimo on April 11 at the Malaspina Theatre.

A film festival that aims to inspire people to explore rivers, lakes and oceans all while pushing themselves physically and mentally is coming to Nanaimo next month.

The 8th Annual Reel Paddling Film Festival, which is a contest awarding films in 10 categories, will be in Nanaimo on April 11 at the Malaspina Theatre. The festival is sponsored by Alberni Outpost and supports the B.C. Marine Trail Network in Duncan, Courtenay and Nanaimo.

Erin Heeney, manager for Alberni Outpost in Nanaimo said the company is excited to share its passion for paddle sports at the upcoming film festival.

“Vancouver Island is home to spectacular paddling experiences for people of all skill levels and abilities. At Alberni Outpost, we know paddling and we want to share our passion with our communities through inspiring films that celebrate the awe and wonder of our region as experienced through paddling,” Heeney said, in a press release.

Alberni Outpost are donating 50 per cent of the proceeds to BC Marine Trails Network, which will be used  for ground proofing and further work on the trail network.
