Nanaimo art aficionados can see art exhibitions in galleries across the globe during a cinematic tour called In the Gallery.
In the Gallery shows at Galaxy Cinemas, located at Nanaimo North Town Centre, starting Jan. 8.
The series features The Curious World of Hieronymus Bosch; Botticelli – Inferno; I, Claude Monet; Revolution – New Art for a New World; The Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism and Michelangelo: Love and Death.
The Curious World of Hieronymus Bosch showed Jan. 8 at 12:55 p.m. The film tours the Bosch – Visions of Genius exhibit at the Het Noordbrabants Museum in the southern Netherlands. It includes details about his life and about his work.
Boticelli – Inferno features stories about Botticelli’s Inferno, which illustrates Dante’s Inferno.
For years the painting was locked beneath the Vatican in vaults. The film shows Jan. 18 and 29.
I, Claude Monet, “reveals new insight into the man who not only painted the picture that gave birth to impressionism, but who was perhaps the most influential and successful painter of the 19th and 20th centuries,” according to Cineplex’s website. It shows Feb. 22 and 26.
Revolution – New Art for A New World documents tells the stories or Russian artists such as Chagall, Kandinsky, Malevich and others. It shows March 8 and April 2.
The Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism examines the popular exhibit The Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism and the Garden Movement, 1887-1920 from the Florence Griswold Museum in Connecticut. It shows March 22.
The Michelangelo: Love and Death film coincides with an exhibit at the National Gallery of London. It features a biography of Michelangelo’s life, who is “considered one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance,” according to Cineplex’s website.
The film examines paintings, sculptures and architecture, including David in Florence and the Sistine Chapel.
It shows June 14 and 18.
