Final shows of Timberline musical are this weekend

“Miss Peretti, Please spell syzygy.”

And so begins the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, the Timberline Musical Theatre presentation for 2016.

“This show is very challenging and showcases the talents of a number of students,” says a press release from the school. “We are very fortunate to have the pool of talent that allows us to produce a play of this nature.”

An eclectic group of middle school spellers — Olive, William, Logainne, Marcy, Leaf and Chip — come together in this charming musical comedy, winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for the best book.

Through hilarious comedy, touching moments and catchy tunes, the spellers reveal their hopes and dreams, their passions and their struggles as they compete for the championship.

“While the characters onstage are meant to be 10 to 12 years old, this is not a ‘kids’ show,’ as the humour is directed to a more mature audience,” said Jana MacFarlane, the director of the production.

Celine Ouelette, the producer and musical director of the production, is proud of the energy and talent students have brought to the stage.

“Students have been working on this production for several months,” she said. “Everyone has a chance to shine in this musical, as it showcases many of Timberline’s students.”

The final shows take places March 11 and 12 Timberline Secondary School.

Tickets are sold at the Timberline main office or online at sd72.bc.ca/school/timberline.
