After a hot and sweaty CD release party at Vancouver’s Media Room, Vancouver funk ‘n’ roll band Jackie Treehorn is bussing it around B.C., and stops long enough to play a show at Lorenzo’s Café in Ashton Creek July 9.
Named after a character from the cult film The Big Lebowski, the band is well stocked for their CD release tour through the province.
According to their website, they have packed their underwear and deodorant, which is a good thing as the seven members who make up the band are travelling in a rather run-down looking school bus.
“It has been named the magic bus and apparently runs on good thoughts and lollipops,” reads the site.
Made up of the colourful crew of Ashley Slater, Chelsea Burden, Adam Kerby, Lorick Russow, Kevin Sanders, Nick Nixon and Derek Van Deursen, the band has just released its debut album, We Are Jackie Treehorn.
Their debut single, Cruel, found itself in rotation on the Shore 104.3 after placing as a top 20 finalist in the Song Search competition.
Riding the momentum, the funky grooves of this emerging powerhouse is stopping in cities all over B.C., including Penticton and Kelowna.
Jackie Treehorn first began playing shows in Vancouver in July 2009. After a series of roster changes, the current seven members took their collective songwriting efforts to the studio while continuing to hone their eclectic sound.
“With songs ranging from rock-gospel anthems in which your friends are the object of worship, to straight-up songs of funky conquest, where the brain is the thing that turns you on, it’s a great big mix bag of feel-good groove,” said band leader Slater.
With a strong influence from ‘70s- era music, Jackie Treehorn embraces the nostalgic and makes it contemporary, making them unique on the Vancouver music scene.
Known for their wacky onstage antics and powerful jams, the band has a both a fun-loving and edgy live sound that has captivated audiences in venues all over Vancouver. The septet can also often be found gracing downtown Vancouver with a battery powered busking set that turns the street into a full-fledged dance party.
The new album is now available for digital download. More information can be found on the band’s website at www.jackietreehorn.ca.
