The biggest art show on Ladysmith’s annual calendar, and one of the biggest outdoor shows on Vancouver Island, will kick off Aug. 27

The biggest art show on Ladysmith’s annual calendar, and one of the biggest outdoor shows on Vancouver Island, will kick off Aug. 27 with Light up the Night, then continue next day with the 18th Arts on The Avenue exhibit.

Fifty-five artists will have their work on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during Arts on the Avenue. The public is invited to wander from tent to tent along the kilometre stretch from Warren to Buller Streets.

“This is the place to find a treasure you have been looking for and take it home.  Many art collections have started at Arts on the Avenue,” says a release from the Ladysmith Arts Council, which puts on the show.

There’s lots to choose from in the juried show, “All Local, all accomplished at what they do,” says the LAC release. “The mix is incredible, from metal, fabric, glass, and canvas – imagination is the only limiting factor.”

Light up the Night offers some unique art forms from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Mid Island paving will again be working with local artists to create ‘steam roller prints.’

As well there will be lots of music, a small night market, light displays, the Benjamin Moore’s Glow Stick Art Competition, taro and tea leaf readers, a chair massage, and kids crafts (they can decorate a cardboard box car and enjoy a drive in movie, for example).

“Stay up late and enjoy a brilliant summer evening before we all get back to the grind of fall and winter,” advises the LAC, adding, what could be better than free glow sticks (while they last), music and just ‘kicking back’ with a hot dog, burger, and ‘mitt full of mini donuts.’
