It was a cold and blustery weekend outside but inside the Gibson House it was warm and cheerful. With bright and bold abstract paintings through to the calm peaceful landscapes there was something for everyone. Paverpol statues also covered the expressive, action packed leaping dancers to the calm and sedate Victorian ladies sitting on rocks.
The continual stream of people viewing, eating and drinking while visiting with the artists, friends and neighbors gave this fine old house an ambience of cheer and comfort. The artists were appreciative of all the people that attended and made the first art show at the Gibson house such a huge success.
Paintings were sold, Paverpol workshops were booked, but most important of all is the fact that art in the Similkameen is very alive and well. With this first show behind us we are now planning a spring art show for the “emerging artist”. This is the artist on their way to being a professional but has not yet been represented by a gallery. To assist these artists we will host a workshop on the essentials of framing, pricing, and how you would be juried. Being juried is a daunting thought but a mandatory process, and for those not successful the first time around, there is valuable lessons learned in what standard is required. These are the basics to help prepare them for stepping out into the world of art shows.
So, budding artists, get your art work together, attend the training course and put your art forward to be juried in the Spring Art Show at the Gibson House.
Not ready for a juried art show? Attend the drop-in art at the Gibson house every second Sunday and share and learn from other artists.
If you are interested in showing and selling your art and would like to participate in either the art show or the drop-in please call Judy at 250-499-6034 or 250-499-2883.
