Flamenco Rosario to perform Mis Hermanas at Golden Civic Centre

Mis Hermanas will be performed at Golden Civic Centre on April 13.

Kicking Horse Culture is preparing to bring a night of dance and storytelling to the Golden Civic Centre on April 13 when Flamenco Rosario performs, Mis Hermanas. The show tells the personal story and recalls the memories of Rosario Ancer who realizes, while growing up in Mexico, that she has a desire to become a dancer.

Her dream takes her away to Spain and eventually to Vancouver.

Artistic Director Rosario Ancer said of Mis Hermanas, “While on a visit to Sevilla Spain, I was awakened by the sounds of church bells and the powerful scent of orange blossoms. Memories of my hometown, which I left 30 years ago, came flooding back. It was an emotional experience, and I could not hold back tears as I relived my childhood. Ever since that time, I knew I had to go back home to revisit and redefine the very deep and essence of myself.”

This is a very personal story, but one that in Canada could be anybody’s story.

The show consists of narrative, dance, sound effects, stills and video projections, that will take the audience on a journey from Mexico to Spain, and from Spain to Canada.

Mis Hermanas is an exciting show through music and dance and exploring the journey to other countries, cultures and times.

Mis Hermanas, which received critical acclaim when it premiered in 2008, won the 2009 Isadora Award for Excellence in Choreography, toured Mexico in 2010 and was recently selected for the Made in BC’s 2012-2013 season of contemporary dance.

The story is one of enduring love, family traditions and values, intercultural relationships and influences, the power of love and the joy of life even at times most difficult.
