A new venture by a Cowichan Valley craft brewery aims to please both music and beer lovers at the same time.
The lively Chris Buck Band headlines the first event in the Red Arrow Concert Series at the Duncan Community Lodge at 2244 Moose Rd. on Saturday, June 4 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The band’s motto is: “Play from your heart and have some fun” but they are also pretty good, too, winning the B.C. Country Music Association 2014-15 Country Club Act of the Year and 2015 Group/Duo of the year.
Chris Buck Band performed more than 100 live shows this past year, not surprisingly becoming known as one of the busiest country performers on Canada’s west coast.
They have also opened for such artists as Sam Hunt, Thomas Rhett, Colt Ford and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
Their live show is fun and energetic and you won’t want to sit still.
Fans loved their debut 2015 single, ‘Leave Your Light On’ taking it to the Top 40 on Canadian Country Radio Billboards. The follow up single, ‘Giddy Up’, peaked at No. 34 on Canadian Country Radio Charts, was Top 10 on iTunes (Country) for four weeks straight and their music video was added to CMT Canada.
This is an exciting new sideline for the brewery, according to co-owner Lance Steward.
“We’re not able to do much at the brewery itself so we’re planning a bit of a concert series in town. We’re partnering with the Duncan Community Lodge. There’s lots of parking there and there’s even opportunities to do something outdoors during the summer months.”
Choosing to open with the Chris Buck Band was easy.
“There’s a real Duncan connection there with Taylor Allum, the drummer, coming from here. And I think they’re a great party band, too. They really get the crowd going.”
So far, there are plans for four of these concerts, Steward said.
“We know Chris Buck is going to be June 4 and we know our fourth one is going to be Octoberfest at the end of September or the beginning of October. We’ll be doing all four at that Duncan Lodge venue. Hopefully for the future we can get some licensing changes here at the brewery and maybe next year’s will be at least partially here at the brewery. But parking is still a problem.”
But when it comes to Saturday’s show Steward promises, “There will be lots of Red Arrow craft beer available for purchase with six different types of beer pouring, food trucks and good times.”
Tickets are $15 each at Red Arrow Brewery or www.redarrowbeer.ca
