Auditions are done and roles have been assigned for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, the next live theatre production to be featured by the 100 Mile Performing Arts Society.
It’s a rib-tickling musical satire set in ancient Rome, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart.
Marie Hooper is the director and Jan Richmond is the producer.
Forum’s cast is one of familiar faces, with several veterans of the community theatre company coming back for the 2012 annual spring show.
Nick Goshorn, who had major parts in previous arts society projects, such as Daddy Warbucks in their 2010, Annie, has landed himself another main role as that of Pseudolus, a slave owned by young Hero, the story’s main male love interest.
Hero will be played by teen actor, Ian Levick, who has appeared in two arts society productions and several secondary school stage presentations.
Richmond says that Levick brings incredible enthusiasm and experience to the stage.
“He’s very acquainted with the kind of product we’re hoping to have at the end.”
Nicole Weir, known for her strong performances in Annie, Sound of Music, the 100 Mile Festival of the Arts and as a Cariboo Idol winner, won the role of Philia, love interest of Hero.
Senex, father of Hero, is played by John Blewett and Domina, wife of Senex, is played by Shelly Carrera. Both are arts society vets.
Richmond says that she was very happy with the response to auditions.
“We’re thrilled to have so many people come back and it’s great to see new people as well.”
Richmond says she perceives theatre as a living, breathing, growing environment.
“It’s a teaching ground, and lots of fun. We’re hoping rehearsals are one big belly laugh after another.”
