Fourth annual Celtic ceilidh kicks it up a notch

Presented by the Lake Country Performing Arts Society, the Creekside Ceilidh (a traditional Gaelic social gathering) takes place at the Creekside Theatre in Lake Country Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.

The Okanagan’s Celtic arts scene is about to get a leg up at the fourth annual Creekside Ceilidh.

Presented by the Lake Country Performing Arts Society, the ceilidh (a traditional Gaelic social gathering) takes place at the Creekside Theatre in Lake Country Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.

Shuswap band The Cats and the Fiddle will be back by popular demand from their tour of Ireland, and are excited to present some new and familiar music with fiddles, guitar, penny whistle, great harmony and stories of their travels.

Kelowna’s Chloe, Kyle & Company, a multi-talented family band with two award-winning fiddlers, ages 13 and 11, will play several different Celtic instruments.

Vernon’s Arran Campbell Memorial Youth Pipe Band, under the direction of pipe major Don MacLeod, will show their prowess on pipes and drums, while Vernon’s Argyll Highland Dancers, under the direction of Janet Hackman, will perform extremely difficult steps requiring strength and agility, poise and grace.

Kelowna’s Blakey School of Irish Dance will also delight the audience with their high energy and skills, while the Vernon Scottish Country dancers will reveal the gentler side of dancing which also requires concentration to the music, rhythm and setting.

Tickets are available at Capri Insurance in The Shops at Polson Park in Vernon, or call the Creekside Theatre at 250-766-9309 to reserve. General admission is $20/adult, $70 for a group of four, or $10 for 10 years and younger.
