Fraser Valley Symphony presents a spring concert titled Family Fun on Sunday, April 3, with music recognized and enjoyed across the generations.
Among the pieces will be the themes from the movies Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean, along with the William Tell Overture, forever associated with the Lone Ranger of TV western fame.
Peter and the Wolf by Prokoviev will also be featured. This is a musical tale in which the various instruments of the orchestra help tell the story of what happens when young Peter and his animal friends encounter a dangerous wolf in the meadow.
Narrator for Peter and the Wolf will be Ian Hampton. Originally from London, Hampton was a founding member of the Academy of St-Martin-in-the-Fields and has played cello with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Symphony.
He has been associated with numerous musical groups in B.C. since moving to Canada in 1966.
The concert begins at 3 p.m. at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, and $5 for children (12 and under).
They are available online at fraservalleysymphony.org or at King’s Music, Tourism Abbotsford Visitor Centre, and Black Bond Books (Mission).
Tickets are also sold at the door, if available. Visit the website or call 604-744-9110 for more information.
