Fraser Valley Symphony presents Opera and Song

The Fraser Valley Symphony presents rising tenor star Martin Sadd as part of its winter concert, Opera and Song, on Sunday, Feb. 5 at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (32315 South Fraser Way) at 3 p.m.

The concert features passionate, riveting and dramatic opera tales; beautiful and intense melodies from ballet; and lyrical folk tales.

Sadd will perform arias from several well-known operas, including the famous Nessum Dorma from Puccini’s Turandot as well as selections from Gounod and Massenet operas.

Rounding out the concert, the orchestra will present La Forza del Destino Overture by Verdi and other instrumental opera music.

Sadd obtained his master’s degree in interpretation from the University of B.C.

He has toured with the Vancouver Opera in the schools program; was a member of the Calgary Opera Emerging Artist Program, Pacific Opera and Victoria’s Young Artist Program; and was a district winner of the Metropolitan Opera Competition.

His roles include Rodolfo from La Boheme, Werther in Werther, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Duke in Rigoletto and Pollione in Marma with Vancouver Island Opera.

Sadd’s more recent roles include Borsa, Rigoletto with the Vancouver Concert Opera Society, and Nanki-Poo with the Calgary Opera.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors/students and $5 for kids 12 and under. They are available online at fraservalleysymphony.org or in person at King’s Music, Tourism Abbotsford Visitor Centre, and The Pantry Natural Foods in Mission.
