Gallery 7 Theatre brings back its Theatre Boot Camp workshop series starting this month with Directing for the Stage.

The series features short courses in performance, directing and stage combat. It is designed for both emerging and established community, church and school theatre artists, and will offer intensive training by experts in theatre and film.

Leading the workshops will be experts who work in professional theatre and film.

Participants will be able to register for individual workshops or for the entire series at a discounted rate. Each workshop will run for three sessions.

“We’re building on what was explored last year, plus venturing in to a lot of new territory as well. What’s super great is that we’re able to provide these top-quality training opportunities without big-city prices,” said Ken Hildebrandt, Gallery 7 executive/artistic director.

Directing for the Stage takes place Sept. 27 and Oct. 4 and 11 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the theatre’s rehearsal hall, #100 – 34595 Third Ave. The workshop will be led by Trinity Western University theatre professor Kate Muchmore.

Participants will explore the crucial role of the director in a stage production from concept development to final dress rehearsal. Learn about text analysis, determining a production concept, collaborating with designers, holding auditions and making casting choices, and more.

Other programs in the series are:

– Advanced Scene Study with Erla Faye Forsyth on Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 and 14;

– Stage Combat with Mike Kovac and Ryan Bolton on Feb. 28 and March 7 and 14; and

– Vocal Performance with Erla Faye Forsyth on March 28 and April 4 and 11.
