Alpine garden speaker
The Alpine Gardeners of Central Vancouver Island welcome Jirí Papoušek, a rock and tufa gardening expert from the Czech Republic to talk about one of his other passions: Small Daphnes and Their Cultivation.
The talk will take place Monday, June 12 at 1 p.m.; doors open at 12:30 p.m. at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre.
Cost is $10 at door ($5 for AGCVI, AGC-BC & VIRAGS members) and includes refreshments and a plants prize draw.

Food garden tips
The Qualicum Beach Garden Club will be hosting entomologist and pest-management author Linda Gilkeson on Tuesday, June 13.
Gilkeson has worked to reduce pesticide use and has co-authored pest management training manuals for the government as well as gardening books for the public.
She’s also a regular instructor in the Master Gardener programs in B.C.
The meeting and talk will take place at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the meeting running to 9 p.m.
The cost is $5 per person.

Shady entertainment
Every Wednesday night is Jam Night in the Shady Pub featuring Mike Jarvis and friends.
Come on down and get on up there or feel free to take a comfortable seat and listen.
Every Friday is Music Trivia Night, starting at 7 p.m., with prizes to win.
Saturday, the Shady features live local bands, with Denis Fox and The Real Deal performing their classic rock and blues on June 10.
June 17, Buffalo Pound bring their blues-driven, countrified rock.
