In addition to operating an Art Gallery with six different shows a year the Summerland Community Arts Council also offers workshops for children, youth and adults. The after school workshops for children got underway a few weeks ago and the fall season of workshops for adults beginning in two weeks.
The first one is on the weekend of October 18 and 19 and is Introduction to Jewellery Making with Susan Scott. Participants will have the opportunity to spend a full day learning basic techniques to shape and manipulate wire and sheet into various components. On the second day you will be able to put your new skills to work to design and complete your own personal jewellery project.
The following Saturday, October 25 Bethany Handfield will be back to teach a course entitled Exploring Encaustic: Texture on Cradled Panel. You are invited to join her for an afternoon learning how to create texture with encaustic on cradled panel. The workshop will cover the basics of applying encaustic, fusing layers, and exploring different ways of creating texture. A short video clip by ShawTV Okanagan on one of Bethany’s shows at the old Art Gallery can be found on the SCAC website under “Main Gallery – previous shows.”
If you are interested in watercolour painting there will be a one day workshop on November 1. This one day class will show you a variety of techniques to tackle your next great painting.
The final workshop of the fall will be on Saturday, November 15 and again will be lead by Susan Scott. Learn how to make a metal Christmas Ornament to hang on your tree or give as a gift. No experience necessary, just come prepared to play.
