Get in on some food fun

You’ve heard of Roots and Blues, well get ready for a new event, which is not about music, but food.

You’ve heard of Roots and Blues, well get ready for a new event, which is not about music, but food.

The Food Action Society presents Roots and Brews at Vernon’s Prestige Inn Sept. 24.

The event includes a locally harvested three-course meal, featuring Vale Farms organic pasture-raised beef and harvest veggies (vegetarian option), prepared by ORA Restaurant chef Neil Porter.

The meal will be capped off by the Food Feud: a quiz show, hosted by Sun FM’s Brian Martin and featuring local personalities answering questions about ––what else–– food.

Audience participation is encouraged and great prizes will be awarded, said organizer Wendy Aasen of the Food Action Society.

A cash bar, featuring organic brews by the Shuswap’s Crannog Ale, as well as local Okanagan Spring beer and wine from Gray Monk will also be available.

The event starts at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m. and the Food Fued at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40, available at the Vernon Farmers Market Mondays and Thursdays, as well as the Friday Night Farmers Market, the Bean Scene, and ORA Restaurant in the Prestige Inn.

Proceeds from the event will go in support of local food initiatives and programs such as the Good Food Box, community gardens, a local food directory, and more.
