Dust off that zoot suit and grab your finest pantyhose, the folks at Sooke Cabaret are cooking up another sexy show, this time with a true classic cabaret theme.
The seductively-named “Tight Squeeze” cabaret show will take place at the Prestige Hotel ballroom on Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28.
Orchestrating the whole deal is Jill Sweet, the mastermind of numerous cabaret shows in town, all of which turned Sooke from a quiet little town into a bouncing party from the 30s and 40s.
This time though, she’s upping her game, describing this show as “more intimate, polished and harken back to the roots of cabaret during the 1920s — from Europe to America — all set against a background of a speakeasy club and atmosphere of hedonistic abandon.”
Frankly, if you saw or read Scott Fizgerald’s The Great Gatsby story and wanted to live at least part of that party life from the 20s, then this is it.
“It’s a heady musical cocktail of Irving Berlin to modern day tunes, acrobatic pole, voluptuous dancers, fire vixens,” Sweet said, adding that the whole thing will be topped off with a live band joined by a brass ensemble, the Brasstastics.
Other treats will include getting “shot” at the photobooth, Sooketini cocktails, and “nibbles on sticks.”
A portion of the event’s earnings will go to Sooke’s Harmony Project, a community program aimed towards helping provide music education to a wider range youth in the Sooke area.
The rest will go towards putting on more shows.
Tickets are $25, available at Stick in the Mud, Sooke Regional Museum and Shoppers Drug Mart. Those who come in costume get $5 back at the door the night-of.
