Auditions for 2011-2012 season of Just in Time Vocal Jazz will be held June 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Highland Secondary music room.
There are two auditioned groups under the Just in Time banner. The Jazzy Jems is an all-women group of singers and Vocal Minority is a group of mixed singers.
Candidates should be over 18 years old, have some music reading skills and previous singing experience in a choral setting. Please come to the open audition prepared to do a music reading evaluation, a sight-singing exercise and an unaccompanied solo of your choice in a style that reflects your taste and skills.
All vocal positions in these two groups are re-auditioned every year and successful singers will enjoy the rewards of singing challenging jazz charts in a fun and socially supportive setting, accompanied by excellent musicians like Sean Mooney on piano.
Placements are made to include both fall (Sept. to Dec.) and spring (Jan. to Apr.) sessions and the commitment involves one full group rehearsal per week plus additional sectional rehearsals and personal practice time.
Just in Time’s theme for the fall season is “fire and ice” and the choirs are directed by Wendy Nixon Stothert.
