Apparently ‘Yukon Blonde’ means a denial of grey hair, said guitarist and vocalist Brandon Wolfe Scott.

“That’s where we first heard it,” he said. “You can take that in any way you want there.”

They were formed in Kelowna in 2005 and were originally called Alphababy but the indie-rock band has been in Vancouver for almost nine years.

They cut the record On Blonde in June 2015 and have been touring the heck out of it ever since.

“Canada has been extremely good to us for sure,” said Scott. “We’ve toured it many times and it never gets old. It’s always fun.”

The band is nationally famous. They were named one of the 10 Canadian bands destined for stardom by the CBC and they were nominated for the Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year in 2013 but Scott said he was happy with the level of fame they’ve attained so far.

“I’m sure you could always get bigger,” he said. “But I love where we’re at right now for sure. We’re happy.”

Scott said the band was formed when a group of lifelong musicians happened to meet. The members of the band love to play music and travel and Scott said it’s pretty interesting being in places you never thought you’d ever go with five of your best friends playing music in a club.

“You just roll with it,” he said. “The people you meet on tour, they become lifelong friends. You stay in touch with them even if you’ve just stayed on their couch for a weekend. You always cross paths again.”
