• Burnsview Secondary Grad Fundraiser: April 17, 11 a.m. to 2p.m.; Burnsview Secondary, 7658 112th St.; Burnsview is welcoming the North Delta community to join them in donating used clothes, books, toys, sporting goods etc. Each item will be donated to those in need in the community and money raised will go towards the Grade 12s’ grad celebrations. • 2021 Community Banner Contest: April 12 through June 30; online; The City of Delta is proud to present the Community Banner Contest, a competition to create a street banner that will raise awareness of Delta’s natural beauty, culture, and heritage. Residents are invited to submit their designs (or photographs) for the annual contest, and a volunteer panel made up of local artists and a member of Delta’s Heritage Advisory Commission will select four winners, one for each of the following categories: Delta Heritage (open category), Discover Delta (open category), Emerging Artist (ages 13 to 17 years) and Aspiring Artist (up to 12 years old). The winning design from each category will be displayed on street banners throughout Delta from January to May. • Film Club: April 19, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; via Zoom; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. Calling all movie enthusiasts! Don’t know what to watch and spend hours scrolling through Netflix? Watch a movie from FVRL’s DVD collection or on Kanopy — a free streaming service available with your FVRL card — and join us later for a discussion. It’s a book club, but for movies! The movie for April 19 is Boyhood (rated 14A). Mote: The film discussed may include adult content. • Armchair Travel: April 22, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.; via Zoom; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. Find yourself looking longingly at trip photos on your phone? Participants who want to present will have five minutes to say what made their trip special and why others should go. This session will feature a maximum of 10 presenters. Observers welcome. • Get Ready Delta Community Workshop: April 28, 6:30 p.m. to 8 30 p.m.; via Zoom; Join Delta Fire & Emergency Services Community Liaison Marc Jubinville and Captain Dave Ayton for this free workshop to teach you the risks, how to make an emergency plan and what to put in your kit in the event of an emergency or disaster. • Heartfulness Meditation Workshop Series: Thursdays, April 8-22, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.; via Zoom; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. Everyone is welcome to join this three-part virtual heartfulness meditation workshop series. Each session will feature a presentation followed by experiential guided heartful techniques. These workshops are suitable for beginners who would like to explore and incorporate heartfulness meditation practice. • 13th Annual Earth Day Photo Contest: April 1-30; online (letstalkdelta.ca/earthdaycontest). Hosted by the City of Delta. Delta residents and City of Delta staff are invited celebrate Earth Day with the City od Delta by participating in the 13th Annual Earth Day Photo Contest! This year’s theme is “Gardens for Nature.” Submit your unaltered photo at letstalkdelta.ca/earthdaycontest, including the photographer’s name, title of the photo and a short description of how the photo subject benefits nature. Deadline for entry is Friday, April 30. Three winners from will be selected from each category — “Adult” (age 18+), “Teen” (12-17), “Youth” (5-11) and “City of Delta staff” (not elegible for the grand prize). One grand prize winner will be chosen out of all eligible entries received, and a “Fan Favourite” will also be chosen based on the number of votes received from Delta residents May 1-14.

• The Flame: Hope Springs Eternal Edition: now through May 11; online; Surrey Civic Theatres presents another Digital Stage online performance showcasing a variety of storytellers from across the Lower Mainland and beyond, with host Deb Williams. • Delta Virtual Triathlon: May 1-16, various locations; In an effort to encourage residents to remain active during the COVID-19 pandemic, while also maintaining the health and safety guidelines set by the provincial health order, the City of Delta is excited to announce the Delta Virtual Triathlon. While the swim component will require pre-registration for lane space at Ladner Outdoor Pool, the bike and run components can be completed at any time between May 1 and 16.
