The United Way invites you to have a heart and attend a fundraising Second World War musical revue just before Valentine’s Day.

The idea for the My Heart Is Over There performance that will raise funds for three different charities evolved from the presentation of the musical revue I Luv A Piano last year at four different venues and months apart.

Musical director Gloria Herauf suggested that it would be great to present the next musical for three days in a row and involve different groups in the organization.

A trio of charitable groups and three major corporate sponsors are making it possible Feb. 11 to 13.

Using her extensive experience, Herauf has created a revue with a storyline straight out of an overseas USO show in the 1940s.

Her outstanding accomplishments in the arts were recognized when she was awarded a Canada 125 Medal by the governor-general, the Centennial Medal in 2005 from the lieutenant-governor of Saskatchewan, and the Chamber of Commerce Volunteer Award and Saskatchewan’s Spirit of 2005 Award from the premier.

After directing the Yorkton Community Theatre through many successful musicals, Herauf continues to direct productions in the Comox Valley.

There will be evening performances at the Filberg Centre in Courtenay on Feb. 11 and 12 and a matinée performance Feb. 13.

Plates Eatery and Catering will provide dinner Friday and Saturday and a special brunch Sunday. The Monarch Lions Club has volunteered to operate a cash bar for all three performances and is contributing the net proceeds back to the charities. As well on Sunday, Lions will offer champagne and orange juice to accompany brunch.

Military or 1940s dress is welcome to help go back in time while you enjoy the music from that era.

Besides Central and Northern Vancouver Island United Way, St. Joseph’s General Hospital Foundation and Comox United Church will receive proceeds from the performances.

To help increase the amount of money going to the three charities, Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community, BMO (Bank of Montreal) and the Healthcare Resource Group have signed on as major sponsors.

Earlybird discounts apply to tickets purchased before Feb. 1. Tickets are available at Crown Isle, Blue Heron Books in Comox, Laughing Oyster bookstore in Courtenay, all BMO Bank of Montreal branches, and from St. Joseph’s General Hospital Foundation at the hospital.
