Familiar sounding voices will reverberate through the Vernon Performing Arts Centre Wednesday as the Louisiana Hayride presents its all-new show with the captivating Legends of Country and Rockabilly.
Since its inception three years ago, the Louisiana Hayride tribute show has been steadily growing in popularity.
It has been performed in Vernon on numerous occasions, and many of the shows have sold out, said the show’s writer, director and host Lori Risling.
“The word is out there. We have people booking their holidays so they can travel to see our show again. It’s incredible,” said Risling.
The Legends of Country and Rockabilly is presented as part of the Louisiana Hayride live radio show, which aired from 1948 to 1960.
The show pays tribute to many stars who appeared on the original Hayride, including a young Elvis, who comes back to life in all his pelvic dancing glory of the ‘50s.
There’s a new tribute to The Coal Miner’s Daughter, country legend Loretta Lynn, who will step out to sing some of her hits.
And then there’s Willie Nelson — let’s just say you won’t want to miss his appearance, said Risling.
Elvis also returns as he was in his ‘68 comeback television special. And just when you think it couldn’t get any better, out walks Patsy Cline.
“Her magical voice will send shivers up your spine,” said Risling, adding Roy Orbison, who closes out the show, will have audiences dancing in their seats.
All will be backed by a cast of multi-talented musicians, who will also pay ode to some of the legends themselves.
William Brookfield, on double keyboard, guitar, banjo and vocals, will recreate songs made famous by Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Waylon Jennings.
Mike Melnichuk adds stand-up bass, electric guitar and vocals to treat the audience to songs by Ray Price, Burl Ives and Eddy Arnold.
And Gil Risling adds guitar, banjo and vocals when in character as Willie Nelson and Roy Orbison.
In addition to the musicians, Andrea Anderson returns as Patsy Cline and two new characters, Patsy Montana and Loretta Lynn, and Adam Fitzpatrick returns as Elvis, this time adding a segment in his black leather outfit.
“This incredible ensemble recreates one of the most influential shows in music history, transporting you back to that magical time when these giant legends performed,” said Risling. “You will love the stories. You will love the songs.”
