After such a warm reception by the Courtenay community last year, Helix Dance Theatre returns with its new 2011 company performing at the Old Church Theatre on May 13.
The evening will include special guests including Nadia Boucher, Maddy Dunnett and more.
Helix Dance Theatre operates as a non-profit organization, bringing together gifted young dancers from Island communities including Duncan, Nanaimo and Salt Spring. The formation of this youth performance company was driven by a desire to offer dancers the opportunity to use both technical ability and artistic quality to explore thematic-based choreographic works, rooted in social awareness.
Local artistic director/choreographer Kortney Hunchuk and partner Sarah Panichelli-DeVito are pleased to see their vision come to life as they continue to promote maturity, leadership, and a strong sense of community amongst their members.
In an atmosphere of creative integrity and a high artistic standard, Hunchuk and Panichelli-Devito are training and supporting the dancers as pre-professionals, preparing them for possible future endeavours in the dance world.
One of the most unique gifts the directors offer their dancers throughout the training season is the experience of working in an environment that is purposely designed to be beyond the scope of competitive-based performance.
Helix hopes to affect and inspire its audience with diverse, innovative choreography. The pieces are set to a wide range of music and soundscapes designed to engage and enhance the experience of both the performers and their audience.
Mark your calendar for May 13 at 7 p.m. to experience Helix Dance Theatre in motion on the Old Church Theatre stage.
Tickets are available at Silhouette Theatre and Dance Shop at 250-334-9219. They cost $10 for students and $15 for adults.
