A comedic, one-woman “tour de force” entitled Til Death: the Six Wives of Henry VIII will bring to life all the messy details of the six wives of Henry the VIII and the King himself in this highly acclaimed Monster Theatre production on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. on Quadra’s Community Centre stage.
Six Queens, six love stories, six deaths. . .one actress: Tara Travis!
“Her performance is absolutely astonishing and is reason alone to see the show,” according to soundandnoise.com, Edmonton.
The action starts in the afterlife where, one by one, the wives of Henry VIII arrive to the shock and dismay of each previous wife. Becoming a heated frenzy of an ex-wives club they swap stories, toss Anne Boleyn’s head around, and fight for the right to be acknowledged as Henry’s true bride and eternal partner. That is…until Henry arrives and everything changes.
As the winner of Pick of the Fringe, Vancouver, “Til Death” has captured the attention of audiences across the country. Playing to sold out theatres, “Til Death” was described as “…hilarious, touching, thought provoking and educational” by Theatre in London where it was chosen for Outstanding Individual Performance and Producer’s Pick.
Actor-writer-puppeteer, Tara Travis is the Artistic Producer of Monster Theatre with whom she has co-created and performed in Til Death: the Six Wives of Henry VIII, Mini Masterpieces, The Shakespeare Show, Houdini’s Last Escape and Lavinia: A Modern Fairy Tale of Gigantic Proportions.
In the puppetry realm, with Sticky Fingers Productions, she has co-created and performed in Down the Drain (a puppet traumedy), Swamp Lake: a stormy puppet ballet and Fluffy 10th Street: confessions of a Dirty Puppet. She was Puppet Supervisor and screenwriter on the PBS show Mustard Pancakes.
Founder and Artistic Director of Monster Theatre since 2000, Ryan Gladstone is the playwright and director of “Til Death.” With only two exceptions, he has written, produced and acted in all 20 of Monster Theatre’s original plays, including five one-man shows (No Tweed Too Tight, Every Story Ever Told, The Seven Lives of Louis Riel, Napoleon’s Secret Diary and Confessions of a Class Clown.)
Equal parts comedy, tragedy and reality TV show, this one-woman play brings wicked humour and a humanizing touch to the women’s story. “Go see this show and find yourself in Heaven. Comedy Heaven, that is.” – umfm.com
