Alternate-pop musician, Emily Rowed, will be stopping in Chilliwack next weekend as the final stop on her summer tour through B.C. and Alberta promoting her debut album, Electric Heart.
She will be at Tractorgrease Saturday, July 8 as part of The Hideaway Tour with two other independent singer-songwriters, Cassidy Waring and Sam Lynch.
Living a life of wanderlust drifting between Los Angeles and her home in Vancouver’s east end, Rowed has developed an easy, electro-pop sound with Electric Heart, set for release July 7.
Having released the lead single of the EP Arrows earlier this month, Rowed took the track up a notch, working with producer La+ch to create a summer anthem-worthy remix, available now on all major streaming platforms.
Starting out deeply rooted in folk music, Rowed quickly found her footing in the pop world when Tiësto selected her as the voice of his track ‘Say Something.’ Placing Rowed’s soulful singing against a backdrop of thudding beats and cinematic synths, the arrangement highlighted her voice’s tender inflections and note-perfect power. This lead to the development of her infectious musical style on Electric Heart that blends the sparkle of electronic pop with the intimacy of deeply personal lyrics.
Recording the EP at 604 Studios, Rowed collaborated with some of the best talent in the city to capture her newly crafted sound. Working with co-writers and producers such as Kevvy Mental (Fake Shark, Carly Rae Jepsen) and Colin Janz (Carly Rae Jepsen), the multiple facets of Rowed’s style are captured throughout Electric Heart. From the intimate, gentle lyrics in ‘Burn’ and the head bopping melodies in ‘Electric,’ Rowed creates the perfect collection of tracks to set any mood.
The second artist of the concert, Cassidy Waring, has been writing a lot about loss and that particular type of heartache. In a big way, music has helped her process the death of her mom. In her upcoming EP, Leave it to the Dead, she explores her experience through various waves of the many different emotions that accompany grieving. She believes in the power in vulnerability and says loss can be an uncomfortable, awkward and scary topic, but we all experience the weight of loss and music can allow us to feel some of those messy feelings together.
Sam Lynch will also be performing. She is a daydreamer, a wanderer, and a restless mind, who sings her heart onto her sleeve by way of reflective, honest lyrics, and a nuanced, emotionally transparent live performance. Upon returning from four months spent alone abroad, Lynch fully surrendered to the magnetic pull to music that she had been resisting for so many years. She writes about all of the confusing and wonderful facets of being human; she seeks out the sweet spots where vulnerability and strength meet, where connection shines light into darkness, and where transient souls feel home.
