A former Vernon resident, hip hop musician Tyler Skyy (born Devan Head), has just wrapped up a two-year project where he released one new song a week.
Skyy, who started his hip hop leanings while a student at W.L. Seaton Secondary School, has released new single, Today, as the finale of his two-year long series, #SkyLifeSunday.
The video for Today was filmed, directed, and edited by Oso Smooth Productions in Vancouver.
Throughout the video, Skyy is shown performing the song while reminiscing on life and everything that led him to where he is now.
“This new single and video perfectly describe who I am, from the lyrics, to the instrumentation, to what we portrayed in the visuals – nothing but positivity,” said Skyy, who is now based in Vancouver.
Now 21, Skyy was born with a congenital heart defect known as pulmonary artresia and tetralogy of fallow in Prince George.
Flown to Vancouver when he was only days old, he underwent four open heart surgeries before he was 13.
Skyy is expected to require one more surgery within the next couple of years.
His #SkyLifeSunday project started in December, 2012, with Skyy writing, recording, and releasing a song every single week on Sunday.
“This journey allowed me to expand my musical abilities and utilize a wide range of song concepts, widening my demographic with something for everybody,” he said.
While the #SkyLifeSunday chapter of his life has come to a close, Skyy has jumped right into his next project by making Today the first single in his upcoming project, Intergalactic, slated for release in early 2015.
In the meantime, Skyy’s video for Today can be seen here on YouTube, while the single is available on iTunes.
