History sewn stitch by stitch

Salmon Arm's Haney Heritage Village hosts a heritage quilt show Saturday, June 9.

Matching historical-style quilting styles to the perfect location was accomplished by setting the Di-Versity Heritage Quilt Group’s quilt show at Haney Heritage Village Saturday, June 9.

The group that usually has about 12 members, has swelled to include 23 quilters from Salmon Arm, Barriere, Sorrento, Pritchard and Kamloops.

This heritage group is keenly interested in quilts of the times, women’s lifestyle and history of the times, which influenced family life and women‘s work.

When the idea of having a quilt show was first discussed, Haney Heritage Village was immediately seen as the perfect setting for the reproduction heritage quilts to be displayed.

The quilt show also gave the quilters a deadline for some of the group to finish their projects.

Many of the quilts that will be on display June 9, were created in the style and colouring of quilts circa 1800 to 1900.

Today there are many fabrics with heritage prints, colours and styles available to make reproduction quilts.

The Shuswap Needle Arts Guild will also display needlework of reproduction samplers and old masters done in thread.

The show runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Admission is $5. Marjorie’s Tea Room will serve a special quilters pancake breakfast and lunch special.
