Surrey’s Lydia Hol is “Heading North” with her new album.
Well, not exactly, but that’s the title of the recording, crafted at Afterlife Studios in Vancouver.
The singer and guitar strummer will celebrate with an album-release concert on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Coast Capital Playhouse in White Rock, with Buckman Coe opening. Click here for ticket details.
Embedded below, the video for the album’s first song – a lovely country-rock number – was recorded live at The Boathouse on Pender Island with a band featuring Devin Miller on guitars and vocals, Graham Serle on drums and Marcus Abramzik on bass.
“This song is about having confidence to do the things that scare you the most and looking for light everywhere,” Hol writes on her website.
“We recorded this video live on an incredibly stormy day in December, the wind rattling the boathouse, and the waves crashing right at (its) steps.”
Since the release of her debut EP, “Boats,” in 2012, Hol has toured the country.
“Lydia’s time spent living in Ireland flavors her performances with a storyteller’s honesty and charm, and her studies in English Literature has helped to shape her songwriting into an insightful, and mature art,” reads a biographical post at Lydiahol.com.
In recent times, she has shared stages with folk legends Sylvia Tyson, Dar Williams and Shari Ulrich.
In 2013, Hol was a top-20 finalist in the Peak Performance Project and also a regional finalist in CBC’s Searchlight Contest.
