Punk and world and old-time stuff, jumping blues and heavy rock, dance and spoken word – no matter their taste in music, there’s no doubt Hootstock will have something for all who attend.

The three-day music festival at the Old Bradley Creek Schoolhouse near Forest Grove will see close to 40 acts take the stage July 25-27.

The third annual event drew about 150 visitors last year and organizers Steve and Astrid Roy are “super-stoked” about this year’s lineup.

“I can’t wait,” says Steve, who mentions groups like the Joe Only Outlaw Band and The Rebel Spell, dancer Bonnie McLean and storyteller Marianne Van Osch as some of the performances to see.

It’s a real community event, Steve adds. He points out Hootstock is a non-corporate event and it relies on volunteers and basically “family, friends and farms.”

“That’s what it’s about. If it’s important to people, they should support it. In turn, it will support the artists.”

There are camping sites in the area and it’s an event for all ages.

However, minors need to be accompanied by adults, and people need to bring their own drinking water. A community kitchen accepting donations will be on site.

The Hootstock website, which includes the lineup and directions to the venue, says organizers are hoping to have more outdoor art displays this year and more things for children, and they’re planning a campsite expansion.

“Our biggest aspiration for 2014 is to have a crazy good time, hear some great tunes, stories, poems, see some cool dancing, eat some tasty food, visit with old friends and make some new ones.”
