The Juno-nominated Toronto-based pianist is turning heads with her new CD.

Shepherd, nominated for an Indy (Canadian independent) Award as jazz artist of the year, strikes a beguiling mix that is often simultaneously spacey, soulful, jazzy and bluesy.

An up-and-coming talent getting rave reviews back East, Shepherd performs March 27 at the Elks Hall in downtown Courtenay, a presentation of the Georgia Straight Jazz Society Presented by the Georgia Straight Jazz Society and exclaim.ca.

The singer/songwriter/pianist is touring to celebrate the release of her new CD. Courtenay is one of the 20 stops in her 23-day tour.

Produced by Shepherd herself, Heavy Falls the Night features some of Canada’s finest players, including longtime collaborators bassist Scott Kemp and drummer Colin Kingsmore, both of whom will appear with her in Courtenay.

Snooze on tickets and you will lose. They cost $12 for jazz society members and $16 for non-members. Get tickets at Bop City, Video ‘N More in Comox or during Thursday night jazz at the Elks.
