Housing Crisis wins Castlegar Sculpturewalk’s 2019 People’s Choice Award

Slocan sculptor honoured with top prize for second time

Housing Crisis, by Winlaw artist Rabi’a, has won the 2019 People’s Choice Award, presented at the Castlegar Sculpturewalk Awards Gala at the Lions Head Smoke and Brew Pub on Saturday.

This piece will now stay in Castlegar, joining the city’s growing permanent public art collection. Rabi’a, in partnership with Carl Schlichting, previously captured the People’s Choice award in 2016 for Imagine the Stories.

Runner-up: Mountain Love by Christine Knapp (Colorado)

Third Place: Lulu by Lawrence Cormier (Penticton)

Artistic Merit Winner: Salmon Cycle by Trinita Waller (Sooke)

Runner-up: Wild Thing by Heidi Hoy (Minnesota)

Third Place: Housing Cycle by Rabi’a (Winlaw)
