Dozens of captivating images captured by local photographers are on display at Parkside Art Gallery in 100 Mile House starting tomorrow (June 26).
The show, Through The Feminine Lens, is a first for the Women In Focus photography group, which was founded three years ago by Gina Myhill-Jones and Monika Paterson.
Women In Focus aims to share and teach, and is open to photographers of all skill levels. It has more than 270 Facebook members and about 30 active members locally who get together regularly for workshops and outings.
The show will feature a total of 87 inspiring pieces of photo art from around the world, reflecting the creativity and life experiences of 18 contributing members, which include Myhill-Jones, Paterson, Connie Sanders, Melonie Eva, Rosanne Parchomchuk, Bev Abbs, Joyce Schwab, Dawn Myers, Claudette Collinge, Kimberly L. Rankin, Dale Lunniss Grinyer, Doerte Pavlik, Marilynn Kelly, Jen Oslund, Kathy Stocks, Peggie Freed, Anna Haldorson and Bronwyn Begg.
A reception is set for 5:30-8 p.m., with an artist talk starting at 7 p.m., on June 26.
The show runs until July 25 at the local art gallery at 401 Cedar Avenue in 100 Mile House.
The group is open to beginner and advanced photographers.
Eva has been a Women In Focus member for close to one year.
“I think it’s really encouraging,” she says of the group. “No one is judging anybody.
“Instead, people are really helpful. And people have learned so much. The photography club is not about the size of your lens or brand of camera. It’s not about the photograph you take. It’s not about correct or incorrect technical details. It’s about the person who took the picture; who captured a moment in time.
“It’s about your own story, and Women In Focus gives a helping hand on your journey to self-discovery. So come and be part of our adventure and join Women in Focus.”
