Impressive speakers lined up for fundraiser

Tickets cost $40 and may be purchased at Life Support and Mulberry Books

The Oceanside Accessibility Committee (OAC) will hold its inaugural fundraising dinner and auction on Friday, June 7 at the Quality Resort Bayside in Parksville.

Guest speakers are:

• Jim Milina, the first quadriplegic to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro, where he set a world altitude record, a feat which helped garner him a B.C. Community Achievement Award. Jim is a Rick Hansen Foundation ambassador and former Olympic athlete who understands the importance and benefits of accessible tourism for individuals, communities and the world.

• Albert Ruel is an EATI Super Navigator and an experienced advocate for people with visual impairments and rehabilitation. He is a certified social service worker, passionate about learning, personal growth and helping people connect with their goals.

This new fundraising event includes dinner, guest speakers, auction and door prizes and supports the work of the Oceanside Accessibility Committee, (formerly Measuring Up Committee) which serves the Regional District of Nanaimo electoral areas, Town of Qualicum Beach and City of Parksville.

Part of the auction will be a motorized scooter which should be a great deal for someone looking for a scooter for a family member or friend.

The objective of the OAC is to educate, sensitize and inform the community about accessibility.

The OAC strives to foster a sense of inclusion that enables people of all ages and abilities to enjoy local amenities, participate in local employment and live a productive lifestyle.

Tickets cost $40 and may be purchased at Life Support, Mulberry Books and from OAC members.
