Lovely music, graceful dancing, beautiful frame and form – such images associate with ballroom dancing, especially the very popular waltz.
British-trained dance instructor Andy Mundy teaches with partner Maureen’s assistance and demonstrates the beautiful grace and form of international ballroom waltz. Being very practical, Andy encourages students who already know the American waltz to think of international ballroom waltz as additional steps with lovely form to enjoy.
He ably teaches and coaches his students not only to learn, but to love the dance. Take this opportunity to experience excellent teaching sponsored by the Comox Seniors Association at Courtenay Legion top floor starting Monday, Feb. 7 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for Beginner Waltz. It’s one hour of lesson and half hour of practice and coaching.
There’s a $10 drop-in fee for 1.5 hours for each of the first two sessions. The four sessions of six hours are only $20 for Comox Senior Centre members and $30 for guests. To enable almost equal number of leads and follows, pre-register by Feb. 3 by calling Arabella Benson 250-941-8885 or e-mail arabella888@gmail.com. Pay fees at the door, 10 minutes before class.
Meanwhile, international ballroom beginner’s slow foxtrot lessons continue for a lucky group of eight couples who started in January. From 2:25 to 3:20 p.m. at the Courtenay Legion, this group is treated to semi-private group lessons by Andy and Maureen. For $20 they can continue lessons in February or better still, $35 for both foxtrot, waltz, and dance practice and coaching.
Mundy has been dancing for over 20 years and has successfully taken many medal tests. He taught in England and on cruise ships before emigrating to Canada in 2005 and setting up Corta Jaca Dance. Maureen, his wife and dance partner, has taken several medal tests of her own with the IDTA and ably assists with teaching.
Membership fee for 55-year-plus dance enthusiasts is only $25 for the whole year. Partners of members may be of any age. For info on another dance and other activities, visit www.comoxseniors.ca and check out the latest newsletter.
