From the hand-painted champagne flutes, to the patron’s attire, to the art on display, everything is adorned with an elegant yet playful slash of red.
The work of 25 artists bestrews the Caetani Cultural Centre gardens, as the crowd meanders through the scenic Vernon landmark for the sixth annual A Splash of Red fundraiser Aug. 24.
Artists walk amongst the crowd, prosecco in hand, as everyone takes in the breathtaking artwork, which will go on sale later in the night.
“It’s all intermingled,” says Judy Rose, an original founder of A Splash of Red. “We get to speak to the artists about their work.”
Guests are also treated to a four course meal by Basket Case Picnics, accompanied with wine.
A Splash of Red is a civilized evening of art and community in the purpose of supporting the centre and honouring Sveva Caetani’s vision of bringing together artists and the community. While it’s all about celebrating art and Sveva — who would be turning 100-years-old this year — it’s focused on providing an entertaining and inclusive community event.
“It’s very fun and light — it’s like a big, Sunday Italian meal,” Rose says. “We want people to come and really appreciate the art and buy it. Some people might not even know they’re art lovers until they go.”
Tickets to the sixth annual A Splash of Red sold out in a record time of less than 24 hours, but the Caetani Cultural Centre is always accepting donations and volunteers. Proceeds from A Splash of Red go towards the long term goal of further opening the centre to the community and establishing the cultural centre as a global artist’s hub.
