TRAIL — The Trail & District Arts Council is excited to announce the popular Jazz at the Griff is now available as a series pass.
Enjoy a glass of wine or a mug of local-roast coffee as you enjoy the most talented regional and B.C. jazz musicians up close in the intimate jazz club setting of the Muriel Griffiths Room. This series includes seven shows for the price of six.
Kicking off this season on Sunday, Sept. 24, Dan Brubeck introduces his parents’ (Dave and Iola Brubeck) remarkable and surprisingly little-known songbook. Dan (drummer) was featured on nearly a dozen albums with his father, and toured widely with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, including many appearances with the world’s leading orchestras. His quartet doesn’t avoid the best-known numbers either, offering memorable versions of the oft-interpreted “Blue Rondo a la Turk” and Paul Desmond’s enduring hit “Take Five.” The band was nominated for a Juno last year from a recording of their live performance of this rare material.
Brubeck is a renowned jazz drummer, and a member of one of America’s most notable musical families. Dan’s original drumming style, distinctive solos, and his mastery of polyrhythms have earned him the respect of critics worldwide.
Jazz at the Griff also includes performances by Ron Halliday, Laura Landsberg, Melody Diachun, The Kootenay Jazz Ensemble, The Joy of Cooking and The Devils You Don’t.
Series Passes are $112 and available now in person or by phone. Tables can be reserved in advance with the purchase of four tickets. Single tickets to shows will go on sale Tuesday Sept. 5.
Please note that The Dan Brubeck Quartet will take place in the Bailey Theatre if it outgrows the Muriel Griffiths Room in advance.
