Jazz vespers season opens Cuban-style

The Anglican Church of the Advent, opens its 2014 season Sunday with the Cuban sounds of the Pablo Cardenas Jazz Trio.

The Anglican Church of the Advent, opens its 2014 season Sunday with the Cuban sounds of the Pablo Cardenas Jazz Trio.

Cardenas leads the group on piano along with Sean Drabitt on bass and Kelby MacNayr on drums. Cardenas graduated from the National Academy of Music in Havana, Cuba where he trained in jazz and classical music.

Drabitt is a well-known classic jazz bassists and spent time playing in both New Orleans and New York City. MacNayr is a drummer who has long been involved in the Victoria music scene.

The trio plays at the Anglican Church of the Advent, 510 Mount  View Ave. on Jan. 19 at 7 p.m.
