An evening with Jess Reimer is like a trip back in time to when country music on the radio was cool, the music was honest and the words made you feel it. From Pembina Hills, Manitoba native, the roots and bluegrass musician, has stepped out and away from the Doug and Jess Band, and exposed her roots. Jess has stepped out from behind her bass and taken centre stage.
As a finalist in the International Songwriters Competition, Reimer established herself as a writer. As a soloist she presents stripped down versions of the stark prairie experience. These are subtle songs rooted in country and folk, stunning in their simplicity. Jess has been immersed in music since infancy. She has recently branched off to explore new musical endeavours. Carving her own sonic identity by performing and recording alongside a slew of creative talents, she released Sweet Darling and Sorrow, produced by Grant Siemens (Corb Lund & the Hurtin’ Albertans) and soon after garnered plenty of attention from the local and national folk and country music communities. Her output to-date has earned acclaim from the likes of Penguin Eggs; official showcase slots at the Folk Alliance International Convention and OCFF; shared bills with the likes of The Good Brothers, Loudon Wainwright III, Peter Rowan, Hayes Carll, and Tony Rice; and appearances in front of audiences at the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, Ottawa Folk Festival, and Winnipeg Folk Festival.
Her songs are sure to please those that Jess Reimer calls her fans while earning the attention of some new and earnest ears. Come and hear her in the intimate comfort of a house concert. This is a wonderful way to meet new people with whom you share an interest in music and to see these full-time, professional, recording artists up close and personal. The home is 10 minutes from downtown Kelowna.
