John Jenkins is a musician that has been filling the eardrums of Golden residents with solo acts, jam night sessions, and with numerous musicians by his side for quite some time now. With his “mountain folk” style of music, John’s name and music is as tranquil as a night camping along a babbling brook. It is this serene sound that has recently been taken to a new level with the debut album of John’s latest musical concoction, John Jenkins’ SmallTown Revival.
“A lot of my musical inspiration comes from the mountains and small town life, and this album is all that and more,” Guitarist/Vocalist and Frontman, John Jenkins said of the fresh album.
Music From Home is an album that has been in the bones of Jenkins for a long time. A crossover type album, with an abundance of musical flavours, it is destined to be enjoyed by anyone whose taste buds long for such a pleasing dish.
“This album is very different from any of my previous recordings. It’s a real mixed-bag, with some real good flow and some definite surprises. There’s everything from root and folk type songs to good ‘ole country stompers to reggae,” Jenkins said with little bias.
It is a record with certainly a lot of local roots growing through it. Besides the actual musicians being from the Golden area, the collection of tunes was literally recorded at John’s house just south of town off Campbell Road.
“My house is definitely inspiring; it just has a vibe of its own. It was the vibe I get from the house that actually made me realize that something had to be recorded there,” Jenkins explained of the strange musical feeling his lodging possesses.
It is no surprise that a quiet home with vaulted ceilings can produce amazing, authentic sounds with fabulous acoustics. It is evident in the recording that there is a homey feel to the songs, a feeling that seems to take its listeners for an audio tour of not only Jenkins’ home, but his soul as well.
John Jenkins’ SmallTown Revival will be hosting a Record Release Party on March 11th at 8pm. The festivities are being held in the Golden Curling Club’s Lounge. The night will obviously feature John Jenkins’ SmallTown Revival as they are planning to play the new record in sequence, front to back. It will also feature much dancing, snacks, and quite possibly a little curling as well; so, bring some clean shoes!
“Golden has always been super supportive of us. We always represent the community everywhere we go. We are really looking forward to celebrating this album with the community. I look forward to seeing everyone there,” Jenkins concluded.
