Johnson brings Disney show

Three renowned members from the UBC School of Music are traveling to Campbell River to present a program for all ages this Saturday.

During the first part of their performance, they will be performing a varied selection of songs from Disney and Broadway. Songs will include hits from Frozen, The Sound of Music, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Chicago.

In the second part of the performance, they will be performing a hand-picked selection of songs from the classical repertoire that are sure to engage both those new to classical music and more experienced concertgoers.

The program will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 145 Simms Rd.

The Disney/Broadway portion of the recital begins at 6:30 p.m. and the classical portion at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15, $10 for students, and $40 for an entire family. Children aged five and under are free. Those who attend the Disney portion of the recital receive free admission to the classical portion of the recital.

Campbell River native and pianist Carter Johnson will be presenting the concert, joined by two colleagues from UBC. Johnson has won international acclaim in the field of piano performance and has been a prizewinner in the CFMTA National Competition, the Julia Crane International Competition, and most recently the OSM Manulife Competition. He is also certified in Speech and Drama and is well-known in the community for his stage presence and innovative recital programs.

He will be joined by Sasha Kaye, mezzo-soprano, and Rayne Beveridge, bass-baritone, both of whom have extensive experience in both classical and musical theatre performance.

To add a unique local element to each concert, the trio features a local artist or group in every community they perform in. And in Campbell River, they will feature the Campbell River Christian School Grade 3-5 singers as they perform a couple of their own Broadway selections.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or reserved by emailing carterjohnson1@hotmail.ca
